WoW Forever fishing: how to fish, where to train and what boosts your skill
How to fish in WoW Forever: pole and Fishing spell, trainers for ranks 1 to 150, the Expert book, the Artisan quest, lures, poles and Legacy perks, from Wowhead's Forever guide.
The quick answer
Fishing is a secondary profession, so it takes no primary slot. Equip a
fishing pole, cast
Fishing from the Professions tab at water and right-click the bobber when it splashes. Trainers teach ranks 1 to 150, a book sold in Booty Bay teaches Expert (150 to 225), and a Nat Pagle quest at character level 35 and
Fishing 225 unlocks Artisan.

Fishing in World of Warcraft: Forever is a secondary profession, so it does not use one of your two primary profession slots. The steps below follow Wowhead’s Forever fishing guide, read in full on October 23, 2026 and last updated by Wowhead on October 11. This is a Wowhead report, not a recorded Realm First client test.
How to fish
The only tool you need is a
fishing pole. Trade Supplies and
Fishing Supplies vendors sell the basic Fishing Pole.
- Equip the pole.
- Cast
Fishing, which you find in the Professions tab, while facing water. - When the bobber splashes, right-click it to catch the fish.
You can fish in any body of water. Some fish only come from schools, such as an Oily Blackmouth School or a School of Deviate Fish. The bobber has to land in the school, each school holds a limited number of fish, and each school type appears only in specific zones.

Where to learn Fishing
Wowhead splits the four ranks by teacher:
| Rank | Skill | Taught by |
|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 1 to 75 | Trainer |
| Journeyman | 75 to 150 | Trainer |
| Expert | 150 to 225 | A book from a vendor |
| Artisan | 225 to 300 | A quest reward |
Apprentice and Journeyman trainers
Wowhead lists these Alliance trainers. Its table has no Horde trainers.
| Trainer | Location |
|---|---|
| Androl Oakhand | Rut’theran Village, |
| Arnold Leland | Canal by the Trade District, |
| Astaia | Temple Gardens, |
| Brannock | Feathermoon Stronghold, |
| Donald Rabonne | Southshore, |
| Grimnur Stonebrand | Forlorn Cavern, |
| Harold Riggs | Menethil Harbor, |
| Lee Brown | Goldshire, |
| Matthew Hooper | Lakeshire, |
| Paxton Ganter | Brewnall Village, |
| Warg Deepwater | Thelsamar, |
| Myizz Luckycatch | Booty Bay, |
Expert book
The book Expert Fishing - The Bass and You teaches Expert
Fishing. Old Man Heming sells it in Booty Bay,
Stranglethorn Vale, at /way 27.4 77.0.
Artisan quest
The quest Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme starts with Nat Pagle in
Dustwallow Marsh (/way 58.6 60.0). You need character level 35 and
Fishing 225. Nat Pagle asks for four unique fish that can only be caught while you are on the quest. They do not sit in a special pool, but you have to fish in specific areas. Wowhead places the Feralas Ahi in
Feralas, just southeast of
Dire Maul, around /way 63.5 53.6, and expects several attempts.

How fast does Fishing level?
Wowhead says leveling depends only on how many fish you catch. The difficulty of the area does not change how many catches a level needs. Its suggested route:
| Skill | Where to fish |
|---|---|
| 1 to 75 | Any starter zone |
| 75 to 150 | A capital city, after learning Journeyman |
| 150 to 225 | |
| 225 to 300 | Not yet written in the guide |
Below
Fishing 25, use a Shiny Bauble. From 25 you no longer need it in starter zones because the catch rate is already 100%. Wowhead says
Stranglethorn Vale suits Horde better and
Dustwallow Marsh suits Alliance better. In those two zones you need
Fishing 225 for a 100% catch rate, so use lures to reach that point when needed. The site’s own Fishing profession page labels which parts of its route come from Classic.
Fishing boosts: poles, lures, food and gear
Boosts raise your effective
Fishing level. That lets you catch higher-level fish and improves the chance of a successful catch.
| Boost | Minimum skill | |
|---|---|---|
| Blump Family Fishing Pole | 3 | 1 |
| Strong Fishing Pole | 5 | 10 |
| Big Iron Fishing Pole | 20 | 100 |
| Nat Pagle’s Extreme Angler FC-5000 (Horde only) | 25 | 100 |
| Arcanite Fishing Pole | 35 | 300 |
| Lure | Boost | Minimum skill |
|---|---|---|
| Shiny Bauble | 25 | 1 |
| Nightcrawlers | 50 | 50 |
| Aquadynamic Fish Lens | 50 | 50 |
| Bright Baubles | 75 | 100 |
| Flesh Eating Worm | 75 | 100 |
| Aquadynamic Fish Attractor | 100 | 100 |
Wowhead also lists fish dishes that give a temporary boost, from Loch Frenzy Delight (3, character level 5) up to Spinefin Halibut (18, character level 45). Gear adds more: Lucky Fishing Hat, Nat Pagle’s Extreme Anglin’ Boots and High Test Eternium
Fishing Line each give 5, and Enchant Gloves - Fishing gives 2. These boost values reproduce Wowhead’s tables and have not been checked by Realm First in the client.
What Fishing adds in Forever
Wowhead says
Fishing itself has not changed much.
Cooking recipes that use fish have been buffed and added, and most cooked foods now grant 5% additional experience from kills. Fishers can craft three camp objects:
| Recipe | Minimum skill | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Fish Bowl | 20 | Trainer |
| Fishing Rack | 140 | Drop from Gelihast in |
| Fishing Hut | 300 | Blueprint: Fishing Hut |
Three Legacy perks affect
Fishing, according to Wowhead. Working Overtime raises the chance to gain a skill point in primary, secondary and class tradeskills by 4%. Luremaster gives a 25% chance to catch an additional fish while a lure is in use. Dedicated Study raises your lowest primary or secondary tradeskill by 1 and has a 23-hour cooldown. Wowhead notes that the Legacy System has no
fishing challenges. Read the Legacy guide for how points are earned and spent, and the camping guide for how camp objects work.
