WoW Forever professions: how many you can have, how to unlearn one and which Legacy perks help
Two primary and three secondary professions in WoW Forever, how to learn and unlearn one, plus the Legacy perks that affect professions, from Blizzard's own posts.
The quick answer
You can learn two primary professions and all three secondary ones (
Cooking,
Fishing,
First Aid). To drop a profession, open the Professions tab with K and click the X next to it, then learn a replacement from a trainer. Blizzard's posts do not say what happens to your skill, recipes or gold cost when you unlearn.

In World of Warcraft: Forever you can learn two primary professions and all three secondary professions. Blizzard’s campfire post of October 21 also gives the unlearning steps. This guide adds the Legacy perks that touch professions and lists the questions the posts leave open.
How many professions can you learn?
| Slot | Professions |
|---|---|
| Primary, two at a time | Gathering: |
| Secondary, all three |
Each profession advances through the ranks Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert and Artisan. The Fishing profession page and the other profession guides cover training and routes.
How do you learn or unlearn a profession?
To learn a profession, visit a trainer in the world or in a major city. To unlearn one:
- Open the Professions tab with K, or select it from the menu bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Click the X next to the profession you want to remove.
The Professions tab also lists available recipes and blueprints, their required materials and whether crafting an item will increase your skill.
Can you change professions?
Blizzard’s steps describe removing one profession and learning another from a trainer. The posts stop there. They do not say what happens to your skill level or known recipes when you unlearn, whether returning later restores them, or whether unlearning costs gold.
They also do not say whether the three secondary professions can be unlearned. The unlearn step is written for “the profession you want to remove” without exceptions, and no source here confirms that it applies to
Cooking,
Fishing or
First Aid. Disenchanting is not described in any of the checked posts, so this guide gives no rules for it.
Which Legacy perks help professions?
The Legacy System lets each character spend account-wide Legacy Points on perks. At launch a character can spend up to 16 points across the Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness trees. Blizzard’s Legacy explainer lists these Professions-tree perks:
| Perk | Blizzard’s description |
|---|---|
| Working Overtime | Increases your chance to gain a skill point in all tradeskills, including class-specific ones like Lockpicking |
| Bountiful Harvest | Helps you find additional Scarce resources when |
| Bartering | Reduces the gold price of items purchased from vendors |
| Performance | Sometimes gives increased Merchant’s Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority or |
| Master Chef | A chance for |
| Luremaster | A chance to fish up extra fish |
| Dedicated Study | A daily cooldown that raises tradeskills faster, or gives free Elemental Essences once they have all reached 300 skill |
The explainer spells the second perk “Bountfiful Harvest”; the Deep Dive recap spells it Bountiful Harvest and describes it as increasing the materials gathered from
mining,
herbalism or
skinning.
One dated beta note matters for Bartering. In the October 16 development notes, Blizzard lists a fix for an issue “where Bartering was discounting training and repairing”. That implies Bartering is meant for vendor purchases and not for trainer fees or repairs. Those notes describe a beta build and are not a launch guarantee.
The Legacy System also rewards the professions themselves. For each non-gathering primary profession, reaching 150, 225 and 300 skill earns a Legacy Point, for 18 points in total. Reaching 150 in one of them is also one way to unlock the system. The Legacy guide has the full challenge list.

What a profession adds at the campfire
Camping gives every profession campsite objects.
Cooking’s
Basic Campfire requires skill 1; the other professions’ first objects are listed at skill 20 and are learned through starter-zone quests or a profession trainer. Objects that require skill level 140 or higher come from drops in dungeons and raids, and the Deep Dive recap says advanced objects come from Blueprint recipes dropped by specific dungeon bosses. The camping guide lists the objects and their buffs.
The Deep Dive recap also reports more than 600 new recipes across professions and level ranges. It publishes no recipe list, so the count is not a guide to which recipes exist at which skill level.
