Can you play WoW Forever on Mac, Steam Deck, console or with a controller?

What Blizzard says about WoW Forever on Mac, Steam Deck, Xbox and other consoles, plus dated gamepad changes from the beta development notes.

The quick answer

Controller play is confirmed: Blizzard lists official gamepad support and its beta notes show a gamepad UI in testing. Blizzard's beta notes also include Mac fixes. The Blizzard pages checked on October 23 say nothing about Steam Deck, Xbox or any other console.

Controller play is the one part of this question Blizzard has confirmed. Its What’s Next recap lists official gamepad support, and the beta notes show it being built out. Mac appears in the beta notes as a platform with fixes under way. Steam Deck, Xbox and other consoles do not appear on any Blizzard page checked on October 23, 2026.

Platform What Blizzard’s pages establish What they leave open
Controller Official gamepad support is listed; a Gamepad (Alpha) section and a gamepad UI appear in the beta notes Launch feature set and which controllers are supported
Mac Beta notes list Mac display fixes; a Blizzard community manager says Mac fixes are in progress Forever Mac requirements and launch support
Steam Deck Nothing on the pages checked Everything
Xbox, PlayStation, other consoles Nothing on the pages checked Everything

What Blizzard has confirmed about controller support

The recap lists “official gamepad support for players who prefer to play with a controller” among its optional player choices, next to opt-in transmog, Classic and modern visual presets, and HD or SD character models. It names no controller model and no platform.

The same support shows up in the beta development notes as a Gamepad (Alpha) section in the game options and a separate gamepad UI mode. Anything labelled Alpha in a beta can change before launch.

Gamepad changes in the beta notes

Blizzard’s notes list gamepad work under its own heading in four updates.

Update Gamepad change
September 24 The pet bar no longer replaces the bottom gamepad action bar for Hunters and Warlocks. New options in the Gamepad (Alpha) section, including Use Compact Action Bar. An edit mode layout fix while the gamepad UI is on.
October 1 The pet stable interface and the compact Raid and Party manager frames support a gamepad. Gamepad UI bindings are static, and rebinding a gamepad only affects the keyboard and mouse interface. Known issue: switching to or from Gamepad UI mode resets the active edit mode layout to the default preset.
October 8 The Gamepad Action Bar supports edit mode. Settings such as the compact action bar moved from the options menu into edit mode, and Blizzard says they are not carried over automatically.
October 16 Press and Hold Casting works with a gamepad. The Trade confirmation, Guild and Communities dialogs, Chat Channels menu and Transmog frame are usable with a gamepad. Quests from interactive objects can be turned in with a gamepad. The Auto Attack and Auto Shot setting supports a gamepad.

The dates are update dates in Blizzard’s notes, not client build numbers. The notes describe beta changes and say nothing about how a controller feels in play.

Does WoW Forever run on Mac?

The notes for September 24 include “Resolved a water display issue and fixed various other display artifacts on Mac.” A Blizzard community manager wrote on September 22 in a player’s Mac graphics thread that “We have multiple different analyses (and potential fixes) for Mac issues underway.”

Those two lines show that Blizzard was fixing Mac problems during the beta. They do not give a Forever Mac requirement list or promise Mac support at launch. The official Forever page requires a subscription or game time, an internet connection, a Battle.net account and the Battle.net desktop app. It does not publish Mac hardware requirements.

Steam Deck, Xbox and other consoles

Blizzard’s recap, the official Forever page and the beta development notes do not mention Steam Deck, handhelds, Xbox, PlayStation or any other console. Gamepad support is not a platform announcement, and Blizzard has not connected the two. Nothing on the pages checked says WoW Forever will or will not come to a console or run on a handheld.

Players on Blizzard’s forums discuss handhelds, and those threads are opinion and workaround reports, not Blizzard statements. Check the official Forever page and the Battle.net launcher for a platform announcement before buying hardware for it.
