WoW Forever pings: setup, keybinds and the radial wheel
Enable pings, bind a key, choose a target filter and fix a missing radial wheel with this source-checked WoW Forever setup guide.
The quick answer
In Options, open Ping System and enable pings, then assign Ping under Keybindings. Press that key over a location for a basic marker; hold it in Quick Ping mode to choose a marker from the radial wheel.

Enable Pings in Options and assign a Ping keybind before trying to place a marker. For the radial wheel, use Quick Ping mode: Wowhead reports that the wheel does not work in Relaxed Ping mode.
The steps below follow Wowhead’s Forever guide, read in full on October 23, 2026. This is a Wowhead report, not a recorded Realm First client test. The source does not identify an exact client build.
Enable pings and bind the key
- Open the game menu with Esc, choose Options, then select Ping System.
- Check Enable Pings. The Ping Mode setting in this section offers Quick Ping and Relaxed Ping; choose Quick Ping if you want the radial wheel.
- In Options, open Keybindings, then its Ping System section.
- Assign a key to Ping. Separate bindings for individual ping types are optional.
Move the pointer over the place you want to mark and press your assigned key. A basic ping briefly appears at that position. The source does not specify a universal default key, so use the binding shown in your own settings.
Choose a marker with the wheel
In Quick Ping mode, point at the location, hold the Ping key, move the pointer to a marker on the wheel, then release the key. Wowhead lists Assist, Attack, Warning and On My Way alongside the basic ping.
Relaxed Ping leaves markers visible longer but does not offer the wheel. If pressing the key produces a marker but holding it never opens the wheel, check Ping Mode in the Ping System options first.
The guide also reports a short cooldown after repeated pings in quick succession. It does not give a duration or a precise rate limit; a temporarily unavailable ping is not enough to diagnose a broken binding.

Stop the marker landing on the wrong target
The Ping Target setting controls what the pointer can mark:
| Setting | What it marks |
|---|---|
| Show All | Both units and the environment |
| Environment | Locations and environmental objects, ignoring units |
| Units | Players, enemies and other units, ignoring the environment |
Choose Environment when you want to mark the ground without catching a character under the pointer. Choose Units when the character is the intended target. Wowhead says the optional Ping Target keybind switches between Show All and Environment; it does not describe that binding as a three-way cycle.
Put pings in chat or raid frames
For chat, enable Show Pings in Chat in the Ping System options. Use Chat Settings to select the relevant chat tab, open Other and check Ping. That section also lets you choose the notification color.
Show Pings on Raid Frames places a player’s ping in their raid-frame cell. Wowhead explicitly distinguishes this from Party Frames, where that feature is unavailable. Ping sounds and volume have separate controls in the same options section.

Share health or cooldown information
Wowhead reports that pinging your health bar shares your health percentage with the group. Pinging a spell or item on an action bar shares whether it is ready or how much cooldown remains. A macro placed on an action bar does not support that direct cooldown-ping interaction, and some action-bar addons may interfere.
For a keyboard-triggered location ping, the source supplies this macro:
/ping @cursor
It places a basic ping at the pointer. The guide also documents /pingspell and /pingitem for reporting spell and item status, like pinging them on an action bar. When combined with an ability in a macro, the ping can report readiness before the ability goes on cooldown. Wowhead says to use the macro twice to obtain the cooldown status.
