WoW Forever racial abilities: every change in the beta notes

Which racial abilities Blizzard changed in the WoW Forever beta between September 24 and October 15, 2026, by race, with the old and new values the notes give.

Race guide: Skyborne

The quick answer

In the October 15 beta build Blizzard updated racial abilities for nine races: Tauren, Dwarf, Skyborne, Human, Orc, Undead, Gnome, Night Elf and Troll. Dwarf, Human and Orc each had a weapon specialization replaced by a critical strike or critical damage bonus, Tauren and Skyborne got shorter cooldowns, and Gnome Eureka! became an 8 second buff. Earlier builds changed Gnome, Human, Tauren and Undead racials.

Blizzard has changed the racial abilities of nine World of Warcraft: Forever races in its beta development notes, all nine in the October 15 build. This guide lists each change by race with the old value where Blizzard gives one. The notes are the only source used here, and they list changes, not every racial.

Which racial abilities changed in the October 15 build?

Blizzard’s beta development notes say “Racial abilities have been updated” and list these entries.

Race Ability October 15 change
Tauren Endurance Grants 2% increased critical damage and healing (was 1% hit chance).
Tauren Plainsrunning Also grants 3% increased mounted movement speed, which stacks with other mounted speed increases. The Tauren must now move a minimum distance per second to keep the effect.
Tauren Cultivation Cooldown reduced to 15 minutes (was 60 minutes).
Tauren War Stomp Cooldown reduced to 90 seconds (was 2 minutes).
Dwarf Mace Specialization Replaced with Earth Fury: 2% increased critical damage and healing.
Dwarf Find Treasure Also gives a chance to find additional items in most chests.
Skyborne Wind Blessed Haste bonus increased to 3% (was 1%).
Skyborne Skysight Can be cast while moving.
Skyborne Read Leyline Can be cast while moving. Minimum duration increased to 30 seconds (was 20 seconds).
Skyborne Walk on Air Cooldown reduced to 90 seconds (was 2 minutes).
Human Sword Specialization Replaced with Ruthless: 2% increased critical strike chance.
Orc Axe Specialization Replaced with Savage: 1% increased critical strike chance.
Orc Blood Fury Cooldown increased to 3 minutes (was 2 minutes).
Orc Shatter Curse Now dispels Curses and Banes (was granting immunity). The notes give magic damage taken as “reduced by 5% (was 15%)”.
Undead Will of the Forsaken Not available while under the effects of Scatter Shot.
Undead Touch of the Grave Proc chance and cooldown adjusted to make the benefit more consistent, with improved visuals.
Gnome Eureka! Now an 8 second buff with no charges. Same effect on damage and ability costs. Now also benefits Power Word: Shield.
Night Elf Quickness Movement speed increase now stacks with other movement speed increases.
Troll Regeneration Health regeneration bonuses increased to 20% (was 10%).

Four notes sit outside the table. The Tauren Plainsrunning developers’ note says “Stutter-stepping is no longer sufficient to maintain the effect”, with some allowance for movement speed penalties. Blizzard also increased the number of spawn locations of Elemental Convergences and Leylines in most Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor zones. The same build says Eureka! cannot correctly be used while in stealth or invisibility. Night Elves no longer display their shields while in Wisp Form. For the Skyborne race itself, see the Skyborne classes guide.

What changed in the earlier builds?

Three earlier builds touched racials as well.

Build Race Change
September 24 Gnome Eureka! changed on every class to a 10% discount on Mana, Rage or Energy abilities.
September 24 Human The Will to Survive visual now matches Dispel Magic instead of Will of the Forsaken.
September 24 Tauren Cultivation has a player-level requirement for every herb, equal to the herb’s required level to pick divided by 5. Herbs that need more than 300 Herbalism skill can be cultivated at player level 60.
September 24 Undead Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control and no longer activates from spells and abilities without a damage component.
October 1 Gnome Eureka! no longer benefits periodic effects at all. Channeled spells do not count as periodic.
October 1 Undead Cannibalize cannot be used if the caster is immune to Physical damage.
October 8 Undead Fixed an issue where Will of the Forsaken could sometimes not be used while asleep or charmed.

The September 24 notes explain the Touch of the Grave change with examples. Shadow Word: Pain activates it on cast but not on periodic damage, Distract does not activate it, so Rogues and Druids can no longer be pulled out of Stealth that way, and Pickpocketing does not activate it. The notes list this entry directly after the Tauren item, without an Undead heading. The October 15 notes put Touch of the Grave under Undead, so this guide does the same.

The October 15 notes carry a further Undead entry for an ability named “Touch of the Dead”: a 30% chance to activate for casters, a 20% chance for Paladins, Rogues and Warriors, and a 25 second internal cooldown. It no longer scales with Shadow increases on the target or the caster and no longer suffers from a decreased multiplier when a lower ranked spell is used. Blizzard’s developers’ note adds: “This shouldn’t have been in place because it’s a racial, not a Class spell or ability.” Whether “Touch of the Dead” is a second name for Touch of the Grave or a typo is not stated, so the percentages are given as Blizzard wrote them.

The October 1 known issues list two racial problems that Blizzard says were fixed in a later build. Dwarf characters lacked updated splash sounds in water, and Eureka! did not affect every damaging or healing spell for some classes.

Do racial abilities show up in the Cooldown Manager?

Yes. The October 1 notes say racial abilities are supported by the Cooldown Manager, and the October 8 notes say all classes, racial abilities and trinkets are supported. Blizzard says consumable support comes in a later patch.

What do the notes not tell you?

The notes list changes only. They do not publish a full racial list, the unchanged values of any race, a launch build or a recommendation for which race to play. Treat every number as a beta value that can change in the next build.
