Shadow is the standard route:

Devouring Plague and Fear Ward at 20 and Shadow Word: Death at 32, and wands now need you to stand still.
- Shadow Magic
- 2 / 0 / 49 at 60
- 6 new abilities
- 31–60 planned, not beta-tested
- Talent order predates the Oct 15 changes

Sources pick Shadow:
Spirit Tap and the wand cut drinking, and
Shadowform at point 31 adds damage and halves Shadow mana costs. Method calls Shadow ideal for solo leveling from 40. WoW Forever GuidesMethodWoW Forever BuildsBlizzard
- Discipline: A wand build (
Wand Specialization,
Spirit Tap,
Meditation) removes most drinking. Method adds a respec to
Penance at 30; ConquestCapped runs a Discipline and Shadow hybrid to 40. WoW Forever BuildsMethodConquestCapped - Holy: WoW Forever Builds lists Holy only as a

- From level 6 keep

What Forever changes for Priests

- Fear Ward and
Devouring Plague come at level 20 for every Priest, whatever the race. Divine Spirit is baseline at 30. Blizzard - Shadow Word: Death is baseline at level 32. It loses the Priest 10% of max health if the target survives. Blizzard
Shadowform lets you cast all non-healing spells, halves Shadow mana costs and doubles the Shadow crit damage bonus, but reduces the Shadow damage bonus. Blizzard
Wand Specialization now takes 2 points for the same benefit.
Penance is a new 21-point Discipline talent: a 2 second channel with a 12 second cooldown. Blizzard- Wands need you to stand still for 0.5 seconds before they fire. Beta notes
- Wands no longer gain damage from spell damage. Beta notes
Devouring Plague can crit (Oct 1) and now has a 24 second cooldown. Shadow Word: Death cooldown is 18 seconds. Beta notes
Shadow Weaving can no longer fail to apply.
Vampiric Embrace cannot be resisted and has a 30 second cooldown. Beta notes
Smite ranks 1–4 and low Lesser
Heal and
Heal ranks were retuned so each new rank is an upgrade.
Renew can crit. Beta notes- Spells cast at ranks far below your level get less spell power and lower proc chances. Beta notes

Gear, weapons and professions
Gear and weapons
- Wand is the first upgrade: Lesser Magic Wand at 5, Greater Magic Wand at 13 (about 50% more damage), then quest or dungeon wands. MethodConquestCapped
- Gravestone Scepter from
Blackfathom Deeps is a reported wand-slot pick for levels 18–25 that boosts
Shadow Word: Pain. ConquestCapped - Spirit gear is worth more than Intellect while leveling, per WoW Forever Builds. Caster weapons now carry spell damage, so level-up weapons help casters. WoW Forever BuildsBlizzard
- Spell damage on gear no longer raises wand damage. Beta notesConquestCapped
Professions
- Method makes the Lesser Magic Wand with
Enchanting at skill 10: disenchant Brown Linen Robes from
Tailoring and craft a Runed Copper Rod first. Method - Method calls
Skinning and
Herbalism the least intrusive gathering picks and other crafting not worth the time; spare cloth goes into
First Aid. Method - ConquestCapped's launch-day tip: disenchant Copper Shortswords made by a guild Blacksmith for Lesser Magic Essence, about 80% yield. ConquestCapped

Legacy perks for Priests
- Each character can spend 16 Legacy points at launch. The WoW Forever Talents Legacy record lists Talented, which starts talent points up to five levels early, behind Well Rested 5/5, so the pair costs 10 of the 16. BlizzardWoW Forever Talents
- Legacy gives 16 spendable points per character at launch. Well Rested raises rested XP gains and its cap, which helps short sessions. BlizzardWoW Forever Guides
- ConquestCapped takes Thrill of Adventure first. ConquestCapped
- WoW Forever Builds suggests Well Rested 1, Talented 5, Thrill of Adventure 5, Field Guide, Frequent Flier, The Quick and the Dead, Reagent Economy and Well Rested 2, and marks the order unconfirmed. WoW Forever Builds
Blizzard's Legacy explanation lets each character spend up to 16 points at launch. Plan yours in the Legacy planner.
Dungeons on the way to 60

Where the sources disagree
No source has measured leveling speed for any class. The beta stops at level 30, and Blizzard says abilities and talents can still change before launch.
- Method puts Shadow Word: Death,
Shadowform and
Mind Flay at level 40; Blizzard and WoW Forever Guides give Shadow Word: Death at 32 and
Mind Flay as a talent usable from point 11 (level 20).
Shadowform arrives at level 40 in WoW Forever Guides but level 42 in the WoW Forever Builds Shadow guide, because their orders differ.- Pure Shadow (WoW Forever Guides, WoW Forever Builds Shadow) versus a Discipline and Shadow hybrid to 40 (ConquestCapped, WoW Forever Builds Discipline); WoW Forever Guides says streamers disagree on whether Shadow helps before 40.
- WoW Forever Builds Discipline page says wands scale with spell power; the Sep 24 beta notes and ConquestCapped say they no longer do.
- Blizzard's deep dive gives Shadow Word: Death a 15 second cooldown and
Vampiric Embrace a 1 minute cooldown; the Oct 15 beta notes give 18 seconds and 30 seconds. - WoW Forever Guides takes
Vampiric Embrace by level 29, but its own spell record says level 30, so it may not be castable until then. - No source read for this guide lists Priest class quests.
- No read source covers the Oct 15 Shadow redesign (Dark
Inspiration,
Improved Mind Flay,
Devouring Contagion) in a leveling order. - WoW Forever Builds puts one point in Well Rested before Talented; the WoW Forever Talents Legacy record (build 70124) lists Talented behind Well Rested 5/5.
- The Oct 15 notes also add Dark
Inspiration to the Shadow tree; no source has placed it in a leveling order yet.
